Digital Radio Online

DAB, or digital audio broadcasting, brought to the radio industry what the digital technology of cellular phones brought to the telecommunications industry–an alternative to analog technology. Using the Eureka 147 format, broadcast companies in Europe and the UK made the shift form analog broadcasting to DAB digital radio broadcasting; the Eureka format became globally standardized everywhere except in the United States.

The United States chose instead to have its DAB digital radio broadcasting formatted in hybrid-digital radio, which make it the only country to have done so, and more or less stopped the adoption of DAB digital radio technology altogether. In the United States, satellite radio has received all the broadcasters’ and broadcasting equipment manufacturer’s attention. Why?

Because satellite radio requires listeners to purchase expensive receivers, and in addition, to shell out the cost of subscribing each month. Radio listeners in other countries must simply raise their eyebrows at the prospect; they receive Eureka 147 and digital radio at no cost.

DAB Digital Radio Features

When the UK decided to make a massive commitment to DAB digital radio in 2001, all of the BBC’s public radio stations, and more than fifty private ones switched their operating systems from analog to the analog and digital hybrid. The radio receivers used to pick up HD audio broadcasts have the capacity to display information relevant to the audio content of the broadcast.

DAB digital radio transmits radio text to the listener, providing tidbits lie the name of particular musical artist when his or her song is being aired, or the plot summary of a radio drama for which the listener may have tuned in a bit late. It will identify the participants in a talk program, or give up to the minute scores for sporting events. For more info see http://www. digitalradio-review. com/Articles/Digital_Radio_Recorder. php on Digital Radio Recorder.

A DAB digital radio receiver eliminates the need for fine tuning the reception on your favorite station as you move through its broadcast area. All you need to do is scroll through the list of stations available and then hit a button to select the one of your choice, for crystal clear reception.

iBiquity Digital

In the United States, iBiquity Digital has been approved by the FCC as the only supplier of hybrid digital analog technology, which it claims enormously increase the amount of broadcast channels, improve the sound quality so that AM sounds like the FM of the past, and FM achieves CD quality.

Lestat, the new musical about vampires, if the mind can conceive of such an existent, having been sucked dry at the box office, is performing the most welcome service it has since its debut. It’s closing.

The notice did provide, however, for the show to remain open on nights that feature a full moon.

Marking the debut of Warner Brothers in the theater venue, where it had hoped to further lower unrealistic hopes for intellectual excellence on the boards, while making as much moola as Disney, the fiasco came back to haunt the company as a $12-million guzzle of red ink.

With music and lyrics by the long-time-no-inspiration duo of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, who somehow could bring themselves to attempt yet one more musicalization of the haunts of those absurd creatures, we can now consider the show almost dead.

By the way, it’s when observing the persistent life of such absurdities that we remind ourselves only creatures with an evolutionary basis and an elaborate biological support system do in fact exist and that, consequently, all the monsters who haunted us in our childhood were actually no more than phantasms of the any Hollywood creep’s imagination, devised especially to haunt us out of the price of admission.

Classical Music Online

Classical Gas is one of the most requested and most familiar instrumental pieces of all time. In an episode of The Simpsons named “Last Exit to Springfield” Homer leads the workers of the nuclear power plant in a strike to recover their lost dental plan. While they picket the plant, Lisa plays a bleak worker’s song. As she finishes, Lenny shouts, “Play Classical Gas”. Lisa plays the guitar and everybody watching the episode on TV goes, “Oh, yeah, THAT tune!” Classical Gas is always asked for whenever a bunch of people and a nylon string acoustic guitar are in the same room. It is not really a great technical showcase for finger style guitarists but it is a great vehicle to show off the sound of the classical guitar.

Classical Gas was released into the world in 1968. A song by The Doors prevented it from turning into a number one hit but it remained in the second place for two weeks. Forty years later it is still among the most familiar tunes of all time and, along with The Anonymous Romance and Leucona’s Malaguena regarded as an essential element of the classical guitar repertoire. And nobody can say why.

The impact of Classical Gas is way more than the sum of its parts. There are very few musical ideas in the tune. It is mainly repetition of a theme made up of a few notes. There are a few parts that are unforgettable “surprises” making use of syncopation, scales, strums, and abrupt time signature changes. Somehow all the bits link together like pearls on a necklace, and the final note adds a sublime resolution.

The composer, Mason Williams, states on his website, “I did not really have any big plans for it, other than maybe to have a piece to play at parties when they passed the guitar around. I envisioned it as simply repertoire or “fuel” for the classical guitar, so I named it Classical Gasoline. ” Mason Williams’ day job was as a comedy writer and stand-up comedian who had lots of other projects besides writing a classical guitar instrumental.

It was Mason Williams’ work on the Smothers Brothers’ “Comedy Hour” which gave him the opportunity to have his pet composition heard by the American public. The original score of the piece shows only chords and a few notes. Mason Williams had a twenty-three year old composer named Mike Post finish off the arrangement.

At the Grammys it won Best Instrumental Composition and Best Instrumental Performance for Mason Williams and Best Instrumental Arrangement for Mike Post who has had a career full of triumphs in the field of TV theme music. His latest victory is the theme(s) for the “Law And Order” series.

Classical Gas has been employed as the theme music for several news programs, the background music for the Apollo 4 movie, and featured in a number of other movies and TV shows. Many people have mistakenly attributed Mason Williams’ solo version of the tune for a cover by Eric Clapton.

Classical Gas is quite an easy piece to play, the challenge is to play it with passion and dynamics because it appears to non-guitarists, more difficult to play than it really is. Maybe this is the reason it is among the most requested guitar pieces ever.

Country Music

Have you ever been the last person to find out about a concert in your area? Country music musicians often come unannounced to many areas, or at least under the radar of heavy publicity and with only so many tickets available, it becomes incredibly difficult to find good tickets at the last minute. That is if you don’t have a good ticket broker. Buying tickets from the ticket booth at an event is a thing of the past and fewer and fewer people are actually doing this. Why? The tickets just sell out so quickly and with ticket scalpers illegally buying bulk tickets and selling them outside an arena; it’s tougher than ever to get good prices. Ticket brokers can help you get the most affordable tickets to the next country music concert in your area, no matter how late you look.

Whether you want to go to the CMA Awards or just a concert down the street from home, a ticket broker can help you get a hold of front row tickets pretty quickly. Brokers have the largest inventory of country music tickets outside of the actual stadiums and most brokers give customers the option of buying their tickets through secure on- line portals, in person or over the telephone. The internet has completely changed the way people buy country music tickets with a broker nowadays because it is just as simple as a few clicks, a little plastic purchase and a printable receipt to get tickets to any concert in the country.

Buying country music tickets with a broker will help you get tickets to the next Brad Paisley or Dirks Bentley concert. Country music superstars often sell out the quickest but that does not mean you cannot get tickets to their events. Too many people hear a country music concert is sold out, such as a Brad Paisley concert, and they stop looking for tickets. However, if you have a broker you can simply ask them and if they hold concert tickets, they will probably have some to the event you need.

But do you have to buy front row, floor seats? Many people think that just because you use a ticket broker you will have to buy the most expensive floor seats in the arena. Not true. Ticket brokers usually have tickets in all seating arrangements to fit the needs of all customers. Some people want to spend as little as possible just to attend the country music concert. Other people want to get as close to the action as possible so they don’t just hear the music, but so they can pick out the individual guitar strums as the singer is strumming to the words.

Buying country music tickets through a ticket broker is easy, fast and affordable and the next time you think about attending a sold out country music concert, just pick up the phone or head to your nearest internet connection.

Talk Radio

For nearly two decades, we’ve been telling you about the value of talk radio as a means for promoting your book to the masses. As one of the country’s top providers of radio shows around the country, we schedule anywhere from 50 to 100 interviews week in and week out. As a result of our close working relationship with the media, we know what works and what doesn’t. Because we need you to succeed with talk radio, here are ten new “inside” tips to help you become the kind of guest every host wants to have on his or her show:

1. Be real. Present yourself the way that you really are. Don’t put up a false or manufactured front. If an audience perceives you to be fake, your message will fail. Be REAL. Be who you really are.

2. Be sensitive about political views. If you are discussing a controversial political issue, always try to acknowledge that the other side has some good points. Remember that radio audiences are diverse. By “giving and taking,” you will win credibility points with your entire audience.

3. Familiarize yourself with the current news climate. Stay up to date on current events and present yourself as the “expert” on your topic. Don’t be caught unaware about a current or breaking news story that pertains to your book. Projecting yourself as knowledgeable will help to build your credibility with listeners.

4. Tie-in a local angle if at all possible. Whether you are talking to a radio show out of St. Louis, Detroit, or Sacramento, be sure to tie the local area in to what you are saying. For example, if your book is about the economy or real estate, talk about the unemployment rate or real estate values in that particular city. By localizing the message as much as possible, you draw your listening audience in even further, and more importantly, you keep them tuned in and interested in your message.

5. Do NOT use a cell phone. Always make sure to use a secure landline for all of your interviews. Cell phones are unreliable for on-the-air interviews and you stand the chance of getting cut off in the middle of your interview. Obviously, this is a major pet peeve of talk radio hosts as they now have to fill the time originally set aside for your interview. No host likes to have the timing and pace of his show screwed up. If your interview is cut short due to cell phone problems, don’t expect them to put you back on the air or reschedule you.

6. Don’t forget to hit on your key points. Sometimes you can get so wrapped up in the conversation you are having with the host or from call-ins by listeners that you lose sight of your main message. Try to always remember your main focus and don’t get too off-topic.

7. Match your interview pace with that of the radio host. If the host is a “fast-talker,” pick up the pace. If the host’s style is slow and easy, do your best to adapt. By adapting to the host’s rhythm, you’ll develop a better camaraderie with him. The positive rapport between you and the host will keep regular listeners interested in your message.

8. Limit numbers and statistics during your interview. If you have a particular statistic that you think applies very strongly to your message, use it and hammer it home. But be careful…if you throw too many numbers at the audience, you will lose their interest and they will tune out.

9. If you are in the dark about an issue, don’t fake it! If you aren’t familiar with an issue the host brings up or don’t know the answer to a question, don’t be afraid to admit it. You will lose immediate credibility by pretending to know something when you really don’t. On the other hand, your credibility goes through the roof when you are perceived by listeners as being honest.

10. Try to give your interviews an intimate feel. Remember that radio is a one-on-one medium. Talk to the host in a personal and conversational manner, and if there are callers, do the same with them. This will help keep the audience interested and they’ll be more likely to relate to you.

Remember—your intention for every interview is to enlighten the listening audience about your book and interest them in purchasing it.

If you would like to hear more about talk radio and how it can help you successfully promote your book, call me or my husband Steve at 727-443-7115, ext. 208. Nothing beats a real-life conversation!

Call today – we’re looking forward to hearing from you!

Classical music, like other forms of classical art, has not as many takers as those of light music. Nonetheless, classical music has its fans too and lots more are falling to its charms. Yet, those who turn to it often find it rather beyond their understanding and real appreciation. They are charmed by it, but they cannot critically explain why it appeals them. You cannot rationalize its appeal or beauty.

Another reason why a large majority of people are not very comfortable with classical music is its complexity and a sense of distance from the artist. Light music can be easily sung by ordinary artists with whom ordinary listeners can identify easily. It expresses the feelings of ordinary persons in their own language. Classical music, on the other hand, is rather mysterious and is rendered in diverse styles and it takes years, sometimes a life long time to understand . But its study has its rewards too. The more you study it, the more you enjoy it and the more you find it wonderful and worth the effort and hard work to study it.

The study or appreciation of classical music depends upon your individual taste. A form of music that appeals to you may not appeal to another person. You may come across experts who may try to influence you by their judgments about the quality of music. You may listen to them, but you should not compel yourself to like the music that they like. Or if you come across a much-acclaimed piece of music that you cannot really appreciate, you do not have to blame yourself for not liking it. You may of course try to find out why the particular expert likes a given piece of music. May be, you find any point to learn.

The most important thing about classical music is to listen to it as much as you can. Classical music CDs are available from many sources. If you are a student, your college library may have an abundant stock of classical music CDs. You can listen to radio, watch TV, and go to concerts and recitals. You can also get free downloads from the Internet, if you do not need to spend money.

Not so long ago, watching films at home was a hopeless experience. You could only buy or rent poor-quality videos with a grainy picture and bad sound. The experience was terrible when you compared to the big-screen, surround-sound cinema.

Now, though, the advent of DVD and home surround sound means that watching movies at home doesn’t have to be inferior to watching them in the cinema. In fact, many people now think it’s better – after all, it’s cheaper, and you don’t have to put up with other people making noises while you’re trying to watch the film. Home entertainment systems (also known as home cinemas) are getting cheaper, better and easier to construct all the time.

So what are the ingredients of a home entertainment system? Basically, there are three things: a source of high quality video and audio, a display for the video, and speakers for the audio. To begin with, you should look for a DVD player. Although you can get DVD players for nothing now, you should get a good one if you’re going to use it as part of a home entertainment system. Cheap players may output inferior quality picture and sound, and might even have trouble playing any DVDs at all.

The next step is a big television, either flat with an LCD or plasma screen, or perhaps even a projection TV – be careful with projection though, as it can break if you plan to use your TV for video games. You should consider getting an HDTV version of whatever you choose if you need to future-proof your system and make your films look just that little bit better.

Finally, you should get any good surround sound speakers, together with an amplifier or stereo system to drive them. Although you can get systems now with ridiculous numbers of speakers, Dolby 5. 1 is still the best system to go with, as it is the most widely supported.

There might be different views as regards music but one fact cannot be ignored that it has a great effect on our emotions. When a child takes birth, it starts reacting to the various sounds in its surroundings such as toys, human voice and others. At times, when you see someone shouting or screaming with joy, it simultaneously affects you and fills you with joy.

Now, scientists have proved that music also effect the development of human brain too. When a baby is born, it has billion of brain cells, over times these cells grow stronger. It has been proved that children who grow up listening music have strong music connections. It affects the way of your thinking, for example, listening to classical music improves your spatial reasoning and if you learning by playing with an instrument, it has effect on certain thinking skills.

Is it true that music makes one smarter?
Not all the times because music controls any cells of the brain for a particular way of thinking. After listening to classical music, one can quickly perform any spatial tasks such as adults can quickly solve jigsaw puzzle. This is because the classical music pathways are similar to the pathways used in spatial reasoning. Listening to classical music, these pathways are “turned on” and are ready to be used. This is how you can solve puzzle quickly but lasts for a short time after listening to music. Playing an instrument also improves the spatial skills as research has proved that music training creates new pathways in the brain.

Use of classical music
The structure of classical music is much complex as compared to rock, jazz or pop. Child who listens to classical music easily picks out the structure and recognizes any classical music he has heard before. Therefore, listening t o classical music has a different effect as compared to other forms of music.

How to nurture your child with music?
You can easily help your child to build his love for music by playing music for your child, singing to your baby, start taking early music lessons, sing with your child or help your child to learn music education at the school.

Country Music

When many people think of country music, they think of sad songs about lost loves, broken down trucks and runaway dogs. In their minds, they’re hearing all of these woes sung in the traditional twangy country accents of the south. However, these perceptions of country music are far from where this style of music has evolved. Today, country music is one of the most desirable genres of music, normally outsold only by rock and pop genres.

Created in the late 19th century, country music has under gone many changes over the years. There are now many sub-genres to this type of music, with some of the sub-genres being commonly played on top 40 radio stations.

To understand country music, it is helpful to know about the instruments commonly associated with it. In country music, one of the most widely seen instruments used is the fiddle (or violin). Some of these instruments can be expensive, but most are relatively affordable and are very easily transports since they tare light in weight and not overly large. When country music first ‘hit the scene’, the fiddle was practically the only instrument used as accompaniment. However, as the country music style became more popular, the addition of other accompanying instruments became normal. The banjo became popular in some country music pieces in the mid 1800s, although the guitar did not break into the country music scene until the early 1900s. Electric guitars did not become a regular instrument in country music until much later in the 50s. Other various instruments used in country music are the piano (introduced in the 1930s) and the drums (used since the 1960s). Rarely used, but distinctive sounding instruments are used in certain country songs: the accordion, the harmonica, and the washboards.

Country music has roots in several different styles of music. Its beginnings started with the settlers that came from Europe. During that time, many couldn’t read or write, so songs were created to pass history down from one generation to the next. Although country ballads have changed a good deal, going from the original songs about objective, though gruesome, events to more personal, subjective ballads without all the gore.

Today, the sound of country music can sometimes be very similar to other genres of pop and rock. Some country musicians, like Shania Twain, have many songs playing on stations that aren’t considered “country”. There are also musicians, like Sheryl Crow, whoever are considered pop/rock, but have songs popular on country stations.

Home karaoke systems have been around for at least a decade, but with “American Idol” consistently garnering record-breaking televisions ratings and shows like “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” and “The Singing Bee” trying to grab a piece of the action, it’s no wonder that they are enjoying a resurgence. With everyone wanting to become the next Taylor Hicks or Carrie Underwood, and even so-so singers getting their 15 minutes of fame, it’s completely acceptable to sing your heart out in front of your friends or in the privacy of your own home.

Enter the home karaoke machine. Everyone from young children to those in middle age and beyond are picking up the microphone and crooning to their most prized tunes. When you’re in the market for a home karaoke music player, though, how do you know which to choose?

There are four main types of home karaoke music players. The first is the traditional singing machine that comes with a microphone and hooks up to your television. You insert a karaoke CD or cassette into the player and it displays the lyrics to the songs (and perhaps video) on your television. You sing along to the music using the microphone and hear the results through either the television speakers or through built-in speakers in the karaoke machine. This type of home karaoke music player is rather cumbersome and not very portable.

The second type of karaoke machine is a stand-alone model. It typically has a small black and white screen (about five-and-a-half inches), speakers, and a microphone. It may also have a small video camera built in. With these home karaoke music players, you can read the lyrics on the small screen. If you hook it up to your television and VCR, you can use the video camera to superimpose an image of the person singing onto the screen and record their performance to tape. While this type of machine can be fun for parties, the small black and white screen is a major drawback. Another disadvantage of the traditional singing machines and the stand along models is that you’re limited in the songs you can play. In other words, you have to wait for popular tunes to come out on karaoke CDs or cassettes before you can start singing them. By this time, songs are generally out of date and not as much fun.

The third type of karaoke is packaged as only a microphone. It comes with about three dozen songs preloaded, through you can also load MP3 downloads. While this type of home karaoke music player is more portable and is meant to be plugged into your television, there’s no mechanism for reading the lyrics. This means that your musical performance has to be just that – a performance where you already know the words to the songs.

The fourth type of karaoke player is among the hot new gadgets hitting the market. It can best be described as a cross between an iPod and a MP3 player. These specialized MP3 players allow you to buy MP3 downloads, load them into the player, and input the song lyrics. Then proprietary software allows you to remove the original voice track from the song and record your own voice over the music while reading a display of the lyrics.

This type of karaoke player is definitely poised to sweep the market. It’s portability is unprecedented – in essence, it’s a handheld karaoke MP3 – in that you don’t need to be anywhere near a TV in order to use it. It also has the advantage of being able to play any song – even top 20 Billboard hits.

Of all the karaoke music players on the market, the cutting edge MP3 karaoke player is the one to beat.

Rascal Flatts is a country music group made up of Gary LeVox (lead vocalist), Jay DeMarcus (bassist), and Joe Don Rooney (electric guitarist). Upon getting a record deal with Lyric Street Records, the group released their first album, Rascal Flatts, which would climb up to the #3 spot on the U. S. country albums chart.

The group’s next album, Melt, would peak at #5 on the U. S. albums charts and #1 on the U. S. country albums charts. Rascal Flatts, next two albums, Feels Like Today and Me and My Gang, both debuted at #1 on both the U. S. general and country music charts.

In 2003, the Rascal Flatts would find themselves waist deep in controversy, stemming from their controversial music video for “I Melt”, off of their Melt album. Some fans objected to the music video, which contained brief nudity of model Christina Auria in any sensual scenes with group member, Rooney.

During times when such a music video would hardly cause a stir on Mtelevision or VH1, being showcased on the more conservative CMT and Great American Country music channels, the video inevitably brought the group much notoriety. The Melt album would garner the Rascal Flatts their first No. 1 country single, “These Days”.

In 2005, the group performed their hit single Bless the Broken Road live with contestant Carrie Underwood, on the popular television program American Idol. That same song was nominated for three Grammy awards including Song of the Year, Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and Best Country Song. The group would take home the Grammy award for Best Country Song.

Digital Radio Online

Americans are nothing if not selectively fickle. It took almost no persuasion for them to abandon their analog landline technology-based telephones, camera, and record players in favor of digitally based alternatives.

But when it comes to their listening pleasure, Americans have been fighting the digital revolution with as much gusto as they fought the American one. They are however, beginning to come around. Having spotty reception, or none, on long commutes or when in the back country on a recreational outing, or simply because they live in a particularly reception-unfriendly area has finally made many Americans start to take recognize of their digital radio options.

The first digital radio alternative is satellite radio. Both Sirius and XM Satellite radio have eliminated the commercials from their digital radio transmissions and are beaming their broadcasts into the automobile receivers of millions of US drivers, no matter where they are located. The glitch is that the service is subscription only, and many older cars do not have the satellite digital radio receivers. And in some big urban areas, the reception is lacking, although Sirius and XM are working on fixes for their problems.

But between them Sirius and XM have still managed to collar only fifteen million of the estimated two hundred and thirty million AM/FM listeners in the US. The two companies have applied to the FCC for permission to discuss a merger, which will cut costs for both. But even a single entity may never move satellite digital radio beyond the niche stage.

The real up-and-comers in the US digital radio field appears to be local radio stations, both because they do not charge their listeners, and because the price of digital radio receivers is beginning to drop rapidly. At the beginning of 2006, a digital radio receiver cost a minimum of $500; now the most expensive are half that. Also with rebates it is frequently possible to find a digital radio receiver for under $100.

Hybrid digital radio is the result of combining digital power with the regular broadcasting of an AM or FM station. It costs a traditional broadcasting station upwards of $100,000 to make the transition to Hybrid Digital technology, and even then they’ve to pay royalties to iBiquity, which developed the process. But more than 1300 radio stations have either bought, or plan to buy, the necessary equipment.

When you build a remote controlled car, you mostly pour hundreds of hours, and even more dollars into making it a creation that you can be proud of. Well, after you have put so much effort into it, how much fun is it to just keep it all to yourself and never show off what you have worked so hard to complete? Some would say that it is a complete waste of effort. If you are building a radio controlled car, you should plan on entering it in many different competitions. There are quite a few RC vehicle competitions of many different types. Here I’ll go over some of the main kinds of competitions that you can get involved in. Each one requires a type of vehicle that’s specifically tailored to it. Sometimes you can swap a few parts out and have a vehicle that’s ready for a different competition, but more often than not it is a totally different type of car.

The first type of competition is the kind that most people would imagine; a easy race track. It’s set up similar to a NASCAR event. A large paved road is used as the track, and all of the cars are lined up in rows at the beginning. The number of laps can vary greatly, from sprint races to longer marathon races requiring dozens of laps. At these events, speed is the number one factor. Nobody will care if your vehicle looks ridiculous if it is capable of speeds far higher than those of the competition. In these competitions, you’ll find the highest level of technical detail put into cars, with high-tech engines prevailing. Light, gas-powered cars with firm wheels are the best type of vehicle for these competitions.

The second type of competition is definitely a fun one, and perhaps the most popular. It is the same as the first in the fact that it is a race. However, this race occurs on an off-road track. An off-road track will mostly include lots of rough terrain, with steep hills and perhaps even ramps or obstacles. These tracks will really give the cars a beating. Most entrants will have remote control cars that look more like trucks, with huge shock absorbers. Several creative methods are used to keep cars in the running. Some even have wheels on both sides, in case the vehicle flips over when it hits a bump. Several advanced driving techniques are required to stay in the running, and this is what makes off-road racing one of the most exciting sports.

Most importantly, there are exhibition competitions that are designed to consist of short segments. These segments show off one particular skill of your vehicle – its agility, its speed, or its handling. You will be asked to accelerate down a straight road, just to see the maximum speed that your vehicle can reach. You can also do slalom events, winding in and out of cones. The exact setup varies greatly from competition to competition, but you can always expect something along these lines.

Any competition involving remote control cars is most likely to be a fun time, even if you don’t have what it takes to win. It’s good just to go and have the company of your fellow radio control enthusiasts.

One Reason Why Radio Won’t Play Indie Music
And What You Can Do About It

by Jeronimo Black

As I clicked on a popular music business forum, I was greeted with a question. “Why will not commercial radio play music by Indie Artists?”

My reply to this person was as follows:

“As a former Operations Manager and Music Director on both the Comm and Non-Comm sides, Let me break the reason down for you.

Commercial Radio needs ratings to get paid from advertisers. Most advertiser’s, on radio, are ad agencies. Ad agencies base their “buys” (sponsorships) on a Cost per point (“CPP”) basis. CPP is based on how many thousands of listeners a radio station can capture in a 15 minute period (or cume).

Many commercial radio [Program and Music] don’t need to put thier ratings at risk, by airing an ‘untested song’ on the air. So what these commercial radio directors do, is, air music based on the national charts provided by Radio and Records, Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) and Billboard.

These charts are generally influenced by the major labels via promotions and strategic alliances.

Your best best is to do like Knarles Barkley. Knarles Barkleys’ single “Crazy” went #1 on the internet and radio couldn’t help but to get them the single on the air.

Get your music on music submission sites, make any noise on the net, and get a CDBaby. com account so you can get your music on iTunes and start promoting. “

I suggested this because the music business is going digital. Clear Channel has a partnership with GarageBand. com where they’ll feature a certain amount of new artists all week in on their website. Since Clear Channel is the biggest and most innovative broadcaster in the music business, it’s just a matter of time before the other cowardly copy-cat broadcasters will follow suit.

The world is going digital, while radio continutes to operate using an analog business model. You may be successful in the music business if you change your marketing model from analog to digital.

Play Music Online

We all have a few of those childhood dreams that fell to the wayside as we grew up. We were either too busy or too involved in something else or were too poor or just kept forgetting about it. It doesn’t matter why we never learned to play the instruments that we wanted to, what matters is that now that we’re adults, are we going to learn to play the musical instruments we dreamed of?

While shopping for the musical instruments of our dreams, we keep running across the “learn to play” instruments and book sets. They look like they were probably designed for kids, but the instruments look like they are almost high quality enough to get away with playing. So can anyone really learn to play a musical instrument from the “learn to play” series?

To be honest, those who learned to play at least one musical instrument as a child most likely can learn to play another musical instrument form the “learn to play” series provided we at least learned the basics of reading music. Being able to at least read the basic scale from sheet music will help tremendously when trying to learn to plat a musical instrument from a book.

Some people do very well learning to play musical instruments from a book, but the people who do very well all have a thing in common, they are self learners. Those of us who were born in the mid to late seventies and beyond grew up in a system of education that everything was handfed to us, thus the majority of us do not learn very well on our own. We need someone to hold our hands and teach us note by note to play a musical instrument, not to mention trying to learn other things. Learning to play a musical instrument from a book requires a certain amount of self teaching ability.

Without the ability to “figure things out along the way,” learning to play a musical instrument from a book will prove to be quite frustrating, although it can most certainly be done. If our desire is strong enough and our patience can run fairly deep, then yes, we can learn to play a musical instrument from a book.

There are few things quite as satisfying as accomplishing something like the challenge of learning to play a musical instrument from a book. As we learn to play any musical instrument without the guidance of someone else, just like kids, our confidence grows. For adults, learning to play a musical instrument from a book may very well be the realization of a childhood dream, and there’s nothing but pure magic in that.

Listen Music Online

An online marketing and technology solutions company is offering Internet users a new, easy way to listen to music on their computers.

Centale Inc. recently launched its Music on Demand program, a patent-pending algorithmic search online application that allows you to use Microsoft’s Windows Media Player as an instantaneous connection to search the Internet for millions of audio and video files and listen to or view them without having to take the time to download any files.

It has a high-tech look and performance and switch-skin technology that will appeal to the millions of people listening to and purchasing music via the Internet, said Patrick T. Parker, chief executive officer and chairman of the publicly traded company (OTC BB: CNTL).

The application has been approved by Microsoft as an official plug-in “power toy/utility” for the Windows Media Player.

“We believe our acceptance by Microsoft as an official plug-in validates our technology,” Parker said. “It will provide a substantial distribution channel for our Music on Demand and bring listening pleasure to millions of people worldwide. “

According to Nielsen//Net-

Ratings, more than 200 million Americans use the Internet. According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project, there are more than 500 million desktops in the U. S. Fifty-six percent of Internet users watch video clips or listen to audio clips; 34 percent listen to music at a Web site; and 25 percent download music files.

It is reported that 2. 2 million people subscribe to digital music services, compared to 1. 5 million estimated by IFPI’s Digital Music Report published in January. The industry expects this trend to continue as the crackdown on illegal digital music services increases.

In addition to its Music on Demand program, Centale’s product line includes the Catalyst EV direct-to-desktop marketing tool, customized browsers, instant messenger applications and screensavers.

Free Music Online

And so today with the emergence of MP3 format, free music is no longer hard to come by. Internet is practically teeming with free MP3 music downloads for all sorts of music enthusiasts. Although there are any objections being raised on the legal issues involved with online peer-to-peer file sharing, continued patronage of free MP3 music downloads still exists in the same way.

Actually MP3 is the shortcut for MPEG – 1/2 Audio Layer 3 and is also referred as MPG3, MPG-3, MPG Level III, and MPEG

3. In short, MP3 is the compressed and formatted copy of the original audio file.

There are certain algorithms and equations used in the MP3 format that are quite similar to those used in the JPG while compressing photographs. If you have ever noticed then you would find that a JPG photo is not quite the same as the original one. There are certain blurred parts, blotches and any minor flaws that could not be easily noticed by a casual observer and this is due to the file compression.

There are mainly two reasons why free Mp3 music downloads are widely available whereby the first one is that any musicians having the real talent find it quite hard to get into the music business. Several artists who have actually made it are groomed by the recording industry moguls to look and sound the way so as to cater the wants and music preference of the masses. It is also true and doesn’t seem nice but the struggling musicians have to cope up with it. So if you want to be successful you have to make certain compromises and those who are not willing to change or compromise can find them frustrated for having no outlets fro their talents.

Several online websites are there that offer opportunities for unsigned artists so that they could publish their work. Online users shall find free MP3 music downloads by these artists whereby they can listen to it and also judge its sound. Several artists are being discovered in this manner so free MP3 music downloads served as a portal to let the general public know about their existence.

Another important reason is that free Mp3 music downloads are being offered in the theory that people use it in product sampling. With free Mp3 music downloads, you can sample the work of any new artist, listen its few tracks before going out to the record store so as to buy it.

Talk Radio

For nearly two decades, we’ve been telling you about the value of talk radio as a means for promoting your book to the masses. Because we want you to succeed with talk radio, here are any “inside” tips to help you become the kind of guest every host wants to have on his or her show:

1. Be energetic. Make sure that you bring ENERGY to the table. Radio hosts love it when you show enthusiasm on the air. If you’re excited about your message, the listeners will be excited, too—and more inclined to want to learn more about your book.

2. Avoid distractions. Make sure that there are no dogs barking or kids screaming and clutching onto your leg. Turn off your computer and the television and make sure that you switch off your cell phone. Shut yourself into a room where you can have total privacy with no distractions so you can stay focused!

3. Be honest. Always be open and honest with the host. Listeners relate better to people who are an “open book. ” Don’t be afraid to be who you really are and say what you really think. Remember that Howard Stern built an empire by being honest with his listeners!

4. Define your message. Before going on the air, know the key points you want to communicate about your book. Make sure you stay “on message” no matter how far off the host’s questions take you. Always bring the answer back to your own key message.

5. Be mindful of your word inflections. Practice saying your main points out loud before your interview. Remember that it is not only what you say, but how you say it. Inflections help keep the listener’s interest.

6. Speak slowly and clearly and make sure that you E-NUN-CI-ATE. You don’t want your words to mush together. If you speak too quickly, the listeners will not be able to understand you. Make sure to enunciate so that people will stay interested.

7. Have notes handy, but try not to read from them. Know your material cold. Reading your notes or word-for-word answers sounds stiff and rehearsed and you’ll lose your audience. You want to sound as natural as possible so that your message will be more likely to trigger a buying response.

8. If you stumble, stutter, or slip-up during an interview, forget about it and move on. Don’t dwell on your mistakes. Don’t get flustered. Stay on message and you’ll be fine.

9. Don’t get technical or use words that most listeners would not know. Remember that you are trying to get a large audience to relate to you. Use layman’s terms, if at all possible, and save the four-syllable words for your next game of Scrabble.

10. Smile when you are on the air. If you are physically smiling while you are talking, the listeners will feel it. If you are frowning, they will feel that also. Although the listeners will not be able to actually see you on the radio, they will be able to “feel” your interest and enthusiasm.

Remember—your intention for every interview is to enlighten the listening audience about your book and interest them in purchasing it.

If you would often hear more about talk radio and how it can help you successfully promote your book, call me or my husband Steve at 727-443-7115, ext. 208. Nothing beats a real-life conversation!

Music For Free

Not many years ago nobody had heard about music downloads and free music was nothing but a dream. When we wanted to play music we had to listen to radio, watch TV or go to the Music Store and buy our music which meant; long playing records (abbreviated as LP), extended playing records (abbr. EP), single playing records (with a and b sites though) or CDs. Time has changed. The popularity of online music downloads has soared in recent years thanks to devices such as the iPod and cell phones which can now play music everywhere you go. Unfortunately as many avid music listeners know the costs of subscription music services can add up quick. Thanks to underground music sites which offer free downloads of independent artists and bands there are alternatives to taking a bite out costs.

These sites offer downloads of free music at no cost with no gimmicks or strings attached. Several artists just getting started view the Internet as the best way to promote their music and setup sites or join existing ones to help spread their bands unique style or message. Even popular artists you may already know have jumped aboard and offered selections of their music for free in order to thank fans and promote upcoming new releases.

Several people are concerned about legal implications of music downloads because of recently news reports about illegal downloads. However with underground sites the songs are perfectly legal and made available to all. In fact the term “underground” refers to using alternative methods, such as the Internet, to distribute the music and has nothing to do at all with illegal downloading.

The best feature of all is that some of these underground artists will be tomorrow’s biggest stars and you can enjoy their early music and help spread their songs to friends and others. So fire up those iPods, crank up the media players and head to the underground for some of the best music available online at absolutely no charge.

Best Internet Radio

Internet radio is occasionally an overlooked feature of the Internet. The act of broadcasting music over the Internet in this way is referred to as streaming music and there are many stations that offer streaming over the Internet. You will often find that your prized terrestrial station can be found online, but there are just as many radio stations that are transmitted solely over the Internet. One of the biggest benefits of Internet radio is that the data is transmitted over the Internet making it possible to listen to radio stations from all over the world. Expatriates find this particularly beneficial.

Similarly, though, it is also cheaper to produce music over the Internet and this means that smaller stations with a smaller fan base than mainstream radio requires are able to run their own radio station. This makes it perfect for those who like particular genres of music to find exactly what they are looking for.

Internet Talk Radio was the first ever Internet radio service and was established in 1993 and in 1995 the first radio service published only on the Internet was introduced – Radio HK. Since then the number of stations opening on the Internet has increased dramatically. Peercasting, or P2P technology, makes it even easier to start an Internet radio station so it is likely that there will be even more stations in the near future.

Internet radio is perfect for people in small towns that are monopolized by only two or three radio stations and are forced to listen to one playlist of songs over and over. With internet radio the possibility of gaining access to music that a person likes is greatly increased.

Whether you are looking for radio broadcasts from countries miles away or you want to listen to one particular genre of music you can be virtually assured of finding a station that caters to your needs. You can even find chat stations that deal with one particular topic. The quality of sound and the quality of the programs distributed are both excellent. If you have not tried Internet Radio before, you should try it now.
